Asset Information : A000-0966

The crew of the giant 182ft schooner Adela, owned by American George Lindemann, demonstrates the commitment and technique reserved for only the most professional of crews. As the yacht changes course from a run downwind onto a reach, there is a need to reduce sail. The crewmember controlling the spinnaker halyard uses precise judgement in controlling the drop of the 1000 sq metre sail at the same rate as the crew is gathering it in onto the deck. The skill is making the giant sail hover across the water allowing wind to still pass under it. Just a few metres too much halyard released too quickly and the sail fills with water stopping the 350 ton yacht and potentially breaking expensive sails, equipment, spars and members of her crew. Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2001. Porto Cervo, Sardinia.
